The above doggie languages are some of the facial expression and body gestures that I can see from my dogs. I learnt a lot from these pictures and with these pictures you can understand what is going on in a dog's mind. I have a dalmatian and her name is Ella aka LaLa. She is my first dalmatian that I bring home. Honestly, I didn't do my homework or collect some informations on this breed before I bring her home. In fact, LaLa was abandant from her previous owner who want to go back to China in a sudden. LaLa has hearing problem but she is a very active and happy pupp. I only realised that she has hearing problem when she never look at me when I call her with her name. This is even worst when I took her for obedient classes. She nearly failed her recall exercise test. These pictures help me a lot in understand simple gestures from LaLa.

HOW many Malaysians have been to Sabah?

I have been to several cities like Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau and several other small towns several times and I always get the same feeling: people there are seriously united.

They communicate with each other in Bahasa Malaysia, with a heavy accent ending with a “bah”.

Even though they are Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans or others, they speak similarly.

To those who have never set foot there, I suggest you plan a holiday there instead of to other countries and I can assure you it will be worthwhile.

Born in Penang, later educated in Kuala Lumpur and working in Johor Baru, I got used to the fact that if I wanted food, I will go to a “Mamak” restaurant, Malay restaurant or any fast food outlet.

Chinese or Indian restaurants won’t cross my mind as the food there is not “halal”.

I could remember the very first time I went to Sabah, it was time for breakfast and my friend, a Sabahan and also a Muslim, brought me to this typical Chinese looking restaurant which we normally see in the peninsula.

Over here, it is obvious that I, as a Muslim, won’t be able to eat the food there because of the “halal” factor.

But to my surprise, the patrons there in that restaurant were mostly Muslims. The food served was normal “nasi lemak”.

I was quite skeptical at first and when I tried to get an assurance from the owner himself, he proudly said: “We Sabahans understand each other well.”
Thinking that the morning scene in the Chinese restaurant was a coincidence, I suggested to have lunch in another Chinese restaurant.

True enough, the scenario was the same: most of the patrons were Muslims.
At night, it was time for a “feel” of the night life in Tawau and we went to a popular “dangdut” outlet.

Again, I was surprised to see many Chinese there.

In Peninsular Malaysia, “dangdut” outlets are normally filled with Malays.
When it comes to food, Sabahans have shown us the true meaning of unity in terms of a simple meal.

Whether it is breakfast, lunch, dinner or even supper, they are united as a people and they eat at a same table.

We sometimes just forget the basics of being a truly united nation.

It is so easy to slur another person, another religion or another race on various websites these days, but is this what we want to do as a responsible citizen?

I feel the way to understand 1Malaysia is by starting to look at how Sabahans live.

Spoiled child having music class really spoilt my mood for the day !!!

In 1989, Bruce McIntosh coined the term the "spoiled child syndrome". The syndrome is characterized by "excessive, self-centred, and immature behavior". It includes lack of consideration for other people, recurrent temper tantrums, and inability to handle the delay of gratification, demands for having one's own way, obstructiveness, and manipulation.

It is really upsetting and disturbed when you have a child came into the class and shown her long-moody face during the entire class, especially EARLY in the Saturday morning.

In fact, most of my Saturday is like this and nowadays I told myself that I WILL NOT let this little young lady spoil my mood for the rest of the day. Most of the time I feel I've become a baby sitter rather a music teacher. There is time I really need to ask this student politely to play a simple tune.

From her playing I know immediately she didn't prepare her home work. In another words - SHE NEVER PRACTICE AT HOME !!!! It was really troubled and disturbing already when you know she did not prepare anything for the class. Then right from the beginning of the class she gave you that buttock face. Like I owe her a lot of money !!!

This particular young lady has scared off lot of her tutors. I understand from her mother that even her Malay Language tutor cannot stand her bad attitude. Her ex-piano teacher quitted teaching her basically because the piano teacher never seen this kind of spoilt kid in her life, and this little girl always refused to play the piano during the class and always gave lots of lame excuses to the piano teacher.

This is the main reason why some of the young teacher doesn't like to take young kids especially those spoilt kids. Some of the young teacher will even ask the parent not to send their kids to music class if the kids are having attitude problem. It is a waste of time and effort for Parents, kids and Teachers further more it is waste of money to send the kids to music class. WHAT A SAD COMMENT !!!

It was a very intensive training and up to a certain point I told myself I really need a time off :-) The whole Kodaly Primary Level One emphasis lots on Musicianship training and Teaching Methodology. I understand that some of the participants struggled in singing and hand sign and playing the piano at the same time. Please imagine you have to sing a minor (natural) scale and at the same time you have to play it on the piano but a 3rd apart. It was a very challenging tasks for me too but it is very good in body and mind coordinating.

Looking forward to the next level - Level two training on December this year end.

I need help on classroom management !!!

Nowadays teaching group class is getting difficult than before. I feel difficult it's not because of I have no teaching plan or lack of teaching materials. The difficulty is how to manage a class room well and in control. I do admit that I told some of my friends and colleagues that nowadays teaching a group of young kids is like doing a superman job. Sometime I do feel like I am teaching a group of out of control "monkeys".

One of my colleague even disliked my comment on this topic and she even talked to me about teaching with LOVE !!! I was overwhelmed with her ideas or philosophy but I don't totally agree with her. Not agreed with her because she didn't understand the classes I am handling. Please imagine I have nearly 40 pupils in a classroom and all of them need to play the notes BAG on the first class. Every one of them play very loud and they play descant recorder. 40 recorders sounded at once !!!! with FORTISSIMO !!!

Now I am waiting for next teacher group discussion on classroom management. I do hope to get some tips from this group discussion.

what now??? after quitting that music school

After quitted teaching at that music school, I still joke around with some of my friends and colleagues about this music school. I asked them if the music school can simply transfer students to another teacher without the previous teacher's acknowledgement or agreement, then can we (the teacher) just simply ask the student to take classes privately with the teacher without informing the music school??

Last Tuesday, after talking with the principal of the music school, I've made up my mind to terminate my service music school at Wangsa Walk Mall. Now I have to settle the classes with music school at Ampang Point Shopping Centre. Both music school at Wangsa Walk Mall and Ampang Point Shopping Centre are under one company.

On the same day, I went to an interview and basically I am happy with this music school. During the interview, the person in charged of the music school knew my incident happened at music school that I've quitted two weeks ago. She shared some of her thoughts and tell me some of the differences between this school and the one I quitted. One matter she pointed out which strike me the most is they are not -
"shopping-mall-based music school" means the music school is not located in a shopping. I've learnt that this kind of music school put their heart into music education to sustain and/or survive their business. "Shopping-mall-based music school" is blessed with WALK-IN-CUSTOMERS but I doubted this kind of students will stay long with this kind of music school. This type of music school making business by selling music instruments more than providing good musical courses to students. To me this is - after sales service - for those customers who purchased musical instrument from the shop. Such music school doesn't put the best interest into the welfare of their music teachers.

Friends do ask me about how do I know that is good music school? Good in what sense, I asked them. I've come to a conclusion that if that music school locate in a shopping mall and selling instrument to survive their business, please don't go there to pick up instrument classes. What do you think?

What a Memorable Thursday and What a Music School in KL (13 January, 2011)

Thursday evening (13 Jan, 2011), as usual, ready to teach in the music school very near to my house. I only have two students there, since it is a beginning of the year so I want to start my work there with positive impact. So I went there early that Thursday. Things really went good with the first student who is a recorder student, as I almost finish teaching this student, I found that my following flute student did not knock the door to remind me is his turn for class. So I took the initiative to look for the flute student then called the student. Unfortunately the student was not at home when I called him.

It was VERY shocking to me when I found out that the flute student shifted his class to Saturday from the piano teacher who taught his brother. It was convenient for me to ask the piano teacher since we are teaching next door to each other. By then I only realized both the brothers are no longer having music classes on every Thursday. I was so confused about the whole situation, so I asked the school administration staffs about any changes of schedule for my student, since I am NOT working there on Saturday. So many questions came into my mind at that moment. One of it, why the piano teacher was informed about the changes of lesson so-last-minute, in fact she got the news only prior to the class about to start. What about my student?? No one from the music school inform me about ANYTHING. Both the piano teacher and me know about the changes on that particular Thursday and right before our students' class about to start, and I know this from the piano teacher not from the music school. Oh NO, I only found out about the reschedule when the class is about to finish!!! Nearly 20 minutes is gone then only I know about the reschedule. The piano teacher was really helpful and kind enough to ask me to refer this matter to the school admin staffs.

Another thing I have to point out here is the way the admin staffs handle me when I started asking questions about my student. You should see the faces and body language they talked to me that Thursday evening. One of them acting very busy moving here and there and another one just sitting there doing A LOT of PAPER WORKS. Well, I think they are busy settle some other things for other parents and just sitting there doing some document or paper works. They even joke around when I asked what happen to my student, and why he didn't turn up for class that day, and why I know the student's brother will come on Saturday and what about my student? Is my student will come on Saturday too?? Together with his brother?? At that moment, I can SMELL something is about to go really WRONG.

Only at that moment when I threw all those questions to the admin staffs, they act like USUAL and answer me with no respect at all. Reply all my questions like I am a STUPID young fresh teacher who just started working WITH some 'BA LIA' music school. The new school admin manager didn't even bother to take the effort or time to ask me to sit down and tell me right in front of me about the changes. She just simply reply that she has changed my student to Saturday AND to other teacher then moved away from the counter. Some more, the other Senior admin manager even said like I am the one who should be blamed of this simply because I am not teaching in their music school on Saturday. I think this is not the issue. From this incident, mind I say, this two admin staffs is HEARTLESS and BRAINLESS. Heartless because they don't take effort to understand the whole issue here and they don't know how to settle this type of cases. Brainless because they don't know how to negotiate with the teacher (in this case is me) or encourage the teacher to teach on Saturday then they can help up the teacher to allocate more class on Saturday in the future.

Let me ask you all this question, if you are the new admin manager what should you do when the student request to change time and how should you reply or answer to the student?? Will you just simply change the time WITHOUT discussing with the teacher?? If you are a SENIOR manager, will do the same thing like the new manager did?? This music school has senior manager that work there for more than 15 years, if she let the new young manager to do things like this it shows how well trained and experienced she can be.

All I just want to know is why the student changing time and WHY no one from the school inform me in ADVANCE. Only when I ask the school admin staffs, I realized my student’s new time table has been confirmed and finalized by the school stuffs WITHOUT my acknowledgement. TO ME THIS IS VERY RUDE OF THE SCHOOL ADMINSTRATION STAFFS. Without acknowledging the teacher in charged and simply change the schedule, this is awfully rude and no respect to the teacher. The thing that made me even MORE SAD is changing time AND changing to another flute teacher. I have nothing against the other flute teacher BUT the school admin staffs never take the trouble or initiative to understand the sweat and tear (efforts) of a teacher ‘grooming up’ a student since the first class. I think, to the admin staffs think this matter is really a TROUBLE process for them to inform and discuss with the teacher. To them just make the changes save lots of TROUBLE. To me, THIS IS NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL and NOT ETHICAL. Does it ever come across in their mind, the teacher has a plan for that particular student?? I planned my teaching materials in advance for each of my student for 6-month-classes to come and I even personalized my teaching approaches for each and every one of my students. It takes time to understand a particular student and ways to talk to the student. I even take the trouble to purchase music books that very hard to get in Malaysia for all my students. This incident is REALLY discouraging to me and other music teacher.

Well, they can even explain to the principal of the school that they have called me and wanted to inform me about the reschedule, and say I am the one who didn't pick up the phone. Then, now I keep asking myself why the piano teacher also got the news on that particular Thursday and right before the class about to start with the brother's of my student????

If the school admin staffs talk and consult to me in advance about the reschedule, I won’t take the trouble to write the 'quitting' email to the principal of the music school, BUT from this incident is too much for me to take, it shows that how ‘professional’ and how capable the school admin staffs of this music school can be. The principal of the school put her NAME and reputation as a music education provider at risk here, if this kind of management team they have in this school. This year (2011) marks my 18th year of music education, I can say that never in my music teaching life I’ve been disrespectfully treated like this and it is VERY humiliating to me. Quitting from this music school has made my other students a victim. I think it is good for my other student to look for other teacher in the same school or other music school if they want to continue their classes.

I feel I want to share with you all about this incident. I learnt and keep learning from my past experience. With this then I can grow to become a better human being.

This is Mocha (Golden Retriever)

First time I caught Mocha sleep like this, four legs face up =) I thought only Titan (shih tzu) sleeps like this. Since little pupp Titan has been sleeping like this but I never seen Mocha did this until last Sunday when we rushing for her Obedient Training Class at 1 Utama Park. She couldn't wake up when I opened the main door, usually she can get up from her sleep with a slight noise or sound of the sliding door BUT ... I think 7am is just too early for her to wake up. I must admit that I couldn't even wake up that early especially on Sunday =)

Lately I have the privilege to visit one of the most beautiful island in Malaysia and some says in South East Asia i.e. Langkawi Island group =) Prior to this trip I've heard that you can hardly see dogs in Langkawi because the authority there prevent stray dogs running wild in the Islands. It is almost true, when I saw lots of cat food available in most of the convenient shops in the islands.

I had a wonderful trip to Langkawi last week and surprisingly discovered a rarely seen phenomena there such as, we can see couple from Middle East having intimate moment in front of the public - hugging, meraba-raba =) At the beach, you can even see them in trunk and bikini kissing each other. However, the following pictures are a very hilarious moment of my stay in one of the island there.

If you can see the chubby Middle Eastern guy next to me, he is the starring of what I can say, the guy with an invisible BRA. XD

I purchased this book yesterday evening (15 Nov) before the Sunday concert by KL International Festival Orchestra with Sean Ghazi and Estee Phook. I wanted to get this book few months ago when I first saw it on Sir James website but postponed the idea of getting it through internet. I saw this book in again at KLCC Kinokuniya last month but still didn't buy it. Up until yesterday evening and after I've read some of the chapter of this book I am more convinced to buy it. So here it is - The Man with the Golden flute, Sir James, A Celtic Minstrel

I managed to finish one chapter before I purchased it from Kinokuniya KLCC :-)

I only went to Penang for PSO rehearsal two days before (Thursday) the actual concert (Saturday) and thank God that I was not there on Wednesday because Wednesday's rehearsals was canceled last minute. Well, this is PSO we are talking about here.

As usual the rehearsals were in a mess and we were still rehearsal 15 minutes before the concert on the concert day. Hmmmm ... what a rehearsal, some of the audience I met on the concert day was shock knowing that we were still rehearsing 15 minutes before the concert start. Well, I've no comment on this.

What is the purpose of a rehearsal? How many rehearsal do we need for a concert like TYT concert by PSO? The thing here is, a rehearsal must functions with goals and during that particular rehearsal we need to achieve the goals that we've set or I should say here the goals that a conductor have set. Unfortunately, the conductor for this concert was just running throught the entire programme again and again blindly and without any goals. Does this mean that the conductor didn't know the music well? or just simply didn't how and what to listen during the orchestra playing. That is why we were going no way if we keep doing like this and no wonder we still rehearse last minute. Is this the way?

Some of the players even joke about the way the conductor conduct the orchestra, for example, Zampa Overture, 'Tong Sampah' Overture for me because we played like 'rojak' and the conductor que the orchestra into the music with a steady tempo but the orchestra can play with other crazy fast tempo. That is how bad the orchestra was for this concert. Aren't the musician in this orchestra trained to understand basic conducting techniques or ideas? I strongly believe that most of the musicians in this orchestra don't know that we have to play the same tempo that the conductor gave us. Most of the time the conductor 'syok sendiri' during both the concert and rehearsals. Allegro NEED NOT and doesn't mean FAST!!! but the Zampa Overture we played and rehearsed was in a STUPIDLY FAST tempo, like crazy musicians play without any brain and just simply play with FAST, FAST, FAST (Allegro) tempo. This is STUPID! The even more stupid thing was each section has their own FAST tempo and honestly I don't even know how to play with this orchestra and the only thing I did during the concert for this Overture is to start with the first note and end with the last note. This is SHIT!!!!

One thing I learnt for this concert is I was very in control when come to my solo part especially in Malay Medley Festival. It is a total new experience for me to play the first flute part and the unison-solo part with clarinet at the beginning of this piece. I've tried to achieve good intonation and in tune with the clarinet but the rhythm went wrong in the concert. Well, just keep moving and play.

The Butterfly Lovers Concerto for Double Bass - simply love it and simply marvelous! During the rehearsal, I barely hear the Double Bass 'voice' when I was sitting in the orchestra ....

Today (13 Oct 09) about 2pm my phone (see the above picture) suddenly the screen black out, the only thing I can see is the light of the keys. Suddenly I felt the whole world gonna collapse because I cannot read a single incoming message and cannot even see the incoming contact. I bought this phone because of the design that attracked me but after using it for almost a year I find the camera attached with it is not that good for my usage. Now I have to take it for service and I hope it won't cost too much but I'll keep it because of the design is just attacked me.

This is the second time I saw Lady Jeanne Galway in person, the first time was in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas when she had her Asian Tour with Sir James Galway and that time it was only a concert. I attend the two night-concerts in DFP which was 3 years ago. This time I attend her workshop and Sir James masterclass in YST - NUS, Singapore organised by Singapore Sun Festival.

Lady Jeanne really knows how to teach and her workshop was very inspiring. She let us know the important of warming up for our daily practices. She introduced ways of warming up that both Lady Jeanne and Sir James does for their own daily practices. She even talked little bit about 'Galway school' during this workshop.

I learnt a lot when she conduct classes for the two participants playing during the workshop. One played Poulenc Sonata and the other Reneicke Sonata. Lady Jeanne talked about how to play in ease for these two repertoires, how to settle some of the problematic parts for these two repertoires. I've learnt these two sonatas with my teachers but Lady Jeanne 'solved' few of my big problems which I faces when I play this two pieces.

After her workshop I continue attending Sir James Galway masterclass. Seeing the man in person, on stage, talking about how he does his daily routine in flute daily practice was such a good experience. Sir James show us his daily practices and he played and let us know what to look after and taking care of when we do our daily practices. He show it all during that session then after that he continue with the masterclass with two YST music students.

01.不能出远门，因为没人喂食宝贝狗，心中也会一直惦记着。

02.无法全家一齐出国玩，因为要有人留下来照顾宝贝狗，也无法带狗狗出国玩，寄宿的问题多多又很花钱，托朋友又欠人情又怕宝贝狗狗闯祸。

03.不能在外过夜，因为很少有地方愿意让宝贝狗狗和我们一起寄宿。

04.开始变成夜猫子，因为公园都不准狗进入，只好半夜人烟稀少时去。

05.要为住家附近的狗屎狗尿负起莫名其妙的责任。

06.隔壁、楼下邻居神经衰弱睡不着觉也要你负责，说你家狗狗乱叫或是走路太大声。

07.有些朋友开始不来你们家，因为怕狗或是嫌狗味还有狗毛沾上身。

08.开始希望下辈子当好人家的宝贝狗，因为有人替我们把屎把尿，不用工作就有饭吃，撒个娇做个简单小动作就有零食、玩具外加很好笑的赞美声。

09.天天担心狗狗走失、被拐或者莫名其妙被毒死，养的太漂亮怕被偷，养的太难看怕被笑，养的讨人厌怕被毒。

10.荷包会快速失血，饲料、玩具、零食、配件、疫苗、生理与心理医疗、狗书外加家私，还有教育金。

11.另一半还有公婆父母开始觉得自己连狗都不如。

12.出门开始觉得自己很邋遢，不是出门前来不及梳妆打扮，就是身上有狗毛、狗味。

13.没有一天可以赖床，因为宝贝狗狗巴度吆外加急着出门拉屎撇尿。

14.返家途中开始猜猜爱犬会中几颗星（破坏了几种东西）。

15.开始觉得愧对自己的宝贝狗儿而怨叹别人家门前有小河后面有山坡。

16.开始觉得像汐止的居民：东西愈摆愈高！

17.狗狗寿命比人短，死别的心痛常让人心碎断肠双泪垂。

18.有时洗澡、剪趾甲、清耳朵、带出门（中大型犬﹚像搏命，伤痕累累。

19.由狗看主人，教育问题不马虎，猛K豆芽菜狗书、上网搜寻查数据、留言发问兼聊天，假日还得上狗课。

20.闲暇还得趁隙Sit、Down、Stay 加Good，不行、No喊多了，小心隔壁邻居叫你不行先生、No小姐。

21.为了弥补宝贝狗儿，假日得出外踏青，机车换房车，为了远离人烟，房车换休旅车。

22.怕宝贝狗儿不高兴不快活不健康，还得担忧心理病，OCD、Phobias、分离焦虑外加社会化不足，搞得主人差点精神分裂，狗还没安乐死，主人先安乐死。

23.出差旅游，别人载誉归国，你是载箱归国，公婆父母念你不孝，朋友说你不够意思，因为三箱行李有二箱是狗东西，剩一箱是出国带的那一箱。

24.为了树立模范养狗家庭，每天又拖又擦，蒸汽除菌外加香精油去味，日日与狗毛与狗味奋战不懈，只是革毛革味尚未成功，同志仍须努力…

如以上理由都不能减退你养狗的信念 , 那就去吧 , 做个好主人~

Almost every friday will have these - 1 can of F&N Seasons Soy milk, 1 pack Tong Garden Honey Sunflower Kernels, and two loaf of High 5 buns before students' classes. The whole thing cost me roughly RM 4.50 that is why my colleagues keep advising me to take proper meal before work. Well, I will do it once I have ample time or forced myself to do it.

whenever I go to Bukit Bintang area sure I'll drop by Jalan Alor for this succulent and scrumptious Pan Mee if times allow me. I love the dried Pan Mee version and it is companied with soup, I used to order large bowl but now I cannot even finish the small one :-( You can add on boiled egg or more vegie or more mushroom or more fish cake etc

In fact this was my first international concert tour with an orchestra - Penang Wind Orchestra, it was a wonderful experience. I do hope there will be more international concert tour coming up in the following years to come. The following pictures tell you something about my trip to both Jeju (some Seoul), Korea and Shen Zhen (some HongKong), China. Took Boeing 777 to Hong Kong and back to Kuala Lumpur, Boeing 747 from Korea to Hong Kong and I love Boeing 747 in flight entertainment more. In fact I took most of the bigger plane for these trips.

1. Bad service, esp the waiters. I've made sure what I've ordered but the waiter came back again to me what was the slideline I ordered.
